South Korean representative Kim Jong-yang has been elected as the new president of the international law enforcement organization Interpol.
The voting took place in the capital of the UAE, Dubai, during the Interpol General Assembly.
98 members supported Kim Jong Yang's candidacy.
The second candidate is Russian General Alexander Prokopchuk, whose brother holds the position of permanent representative of Ukraine in the OSCE - received 64 votes.
Ukraine and the United States opposed the possible election of a Russian representative.
Earlier, as PolitNavigator reported, in the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine threatened with a “harsh reaction” in case a Russian representative heads Interpol.
