Kiev fears “non-standard and bold decisions” of the Russian Orthodox Church in Ukraine

Created from Ukrainian schismatics under the patronage of the Patriarchate of Constantinople and subordinate to it, the “Orthodox Church of Ukraine” will not receive the unequivocal support of world Orthodoxy.

Associate Professor of the National University “Kyiv-Mohyla Academy” Igor Losev writes about this in the magazine “Ukrainian Week”.

According to him, of the 14 diptychal local Orthodox churches, the Jerusalem, Hellenic (Greek), Cyprus, Romanian and Albanian churches may come out on the side of Constantinople, while the position of the Georgian and Bulgarian churches remains in question.

“Thus, the formation of two church coalitions is possible: pro-Constantinople and pro-Moscow. In addition to increased activity on the world stage, Moscow clearly has no intention of being passive in Ukraine. It is unlikely that she will refuse to organize bloody provocations in order to create a picture for the world and Russian media. And from the point of view of the strategy of spreading chaos, the Russian Orthodox Church today could make truly non-standard “bold” decisions,” the author believes.

He includes among such decisions the granting of autocephaly to the Ukrainian Orthodox Church.

“This would be a completely fake autocephaly, but it would completely confuse everything in the religious sphere of Ukraine, since two formally equivalent churches would arise, at odds with each other. And the Moscow Patriarchate would say that it had long wanted to create autocephaly in Ukraine, but the “illegal actions” of Phanar ruined everything,” writes Losev.

As PolitNavigator reported, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko equated the tomos of Bartholomew to the act of independence of Ukraine.
