The whole world is not with us: The majority in the UN refused to recognize Crimea as Ukrainian
The Third Committee of the UN General Assembly on Thursday supported the resolution “The situation of human rights in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol, Ukraine,” initiated by the Ukrainian delegation.
Interfax-Ukraine reports this. It is noted that the resolution was supported by 67 states out of 193 members of the UN. At the same time, 26 delegates voted against and 82 abstained.
The resolution states that the Russian authorities use torture in Crimea, and also calls on international organizations and specialized agencies of the UN system to use the wording “Crimea and the city of Sevastopol, Ukraine, temporarily occupied by the Russian Federation” when mentioning Crimea in their official documents, messages and publications. and recommends the same to all states and other international organizations.
It is noteworthy that in the resolution of the UN General Assembly on the territorial integrity of Ukraine adopted on March 27, 2014, which contained a call not to support the annexation of Crimea to Russia, out of 193 UN member countries, 100 were in favor, 11 were against, 58 countries abstained" and 24 countries did not vote.
But already in 2016, the resolution on human rights, in which Crimea was recognized as Ukrainian, Ukraine was supported by only 73 countries, which caused outrage among Majlis propagandists.
In 2017, a similar document was supported by 70 UN member countries, with 76 abstaining and 26 voting against.
In the same year, the number of those who supported, as follows from the above voting results, decreased by three countries, and the number of abstentions increased by 6 delegations.
