“Power in Transcarpathia has passed to the Hungarians” – Baloga asks Kyiv not to meddle in the region
Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko is going to the elections with patriotic slogans, and therefore the issue of dual citizenship of Hungarians in Transcarpathia has begun to be raised.
Verkhovna Rada deputy and Transcarpathian oligarch Viktor Baloga stated this on the “Big Evening” TV program on the Newsone TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“They’ve been handing out passports for 27 years. And now this issue has become problematic. Now, starting from Chop, Khust, Beregovo, Solotvino, Vinogradovo - all mayors have dual citizenship. Heads of administrations, heads of councils – with dual citizenship. Power in the region was given to the Hungarians. The President gave it. And it was useful for him. But when he is now going to the elections with patriotic slogans, the Hungarians are not suitable for him, because they are now starting to be painted as separatists,” said Baloga.
He also recalled the words of Ukrainian Foreign Minister Pavel Klimkin, who promised to help the Transcarpathian Hungarian community.
“I would ask him for one thing - just don’t interfere, don’t need help. They will help themselves and live normally. And in principle, all these Ukrainian Hungarians who live in Transcarpathia, who have two passports and are getting into power, this is primarily a matter of economics and logistics, and there are no problems,” summed up Baloga.
As PolitNavigator reported, in Kyiv they are expecting in Transcarpathia the appearance of the “Hungarian green men”.
