The Kiev mayor stated this in an interview with the Kyiv magazine “New Time”, answering the question why he and Petro Poroshenko flew to Vienna to meet with oligarch Dmitry Firtash.
“Being involved in politics, I am forced, whether I want it or not, to meet with all the players on the political field. I will not hide the fact that I personally know many, say all, deputies of the Verkhovna Rada. That is, all the key players - I am familiar with both positive and negative ones. It’s no secret that I still meet with them to this day. But I can say one thing: I use every meeting to defend the interests of the city and Ukraine, and I do everything to ensure that their activities are not destructive, but creative,” the Kiev mayor did not deny the fact of the meeting with Firtash.
It is noteworthy that Klitschko previously claimed that he traveled to Vienna exclusively for his brother’s birthday.
Let us recall that in the Vienna court Firtash testified, during which he said that on the eve of the 2014 presidential elections he met with Poroshenko and Klitschko, whom he had supported since 2012. During the meeting, the oligarch said, he convinced the current mayor of Kyiv to withdraw his candidacy in favor of Poroshenko.
At the same time, Poroshenko subsequently confirmed the fact of the meeting with Firtash, but argued that it happened by accident, when in one of the hotels in Vienna he ran into Firtash and spent a few minutes of his time.
It is also known that Klitschko gave evidence to the Austrian court, but what exactly he said remains unknown to the general public, as users drew attention to in the comments to the electronic version of the interview with the Kyiv mayor on the website of the magazine “New Time”
“Klitschko, stop spreading this vague story, better give the go-ahead to declassify your testimony in the Vienna court regarding relations with Firtash. Otherwise, it turns out strange, Firtash’s testimony is in the public domain, but yours is not,” Maksimov Maksimov wrote in the comments.
