“Ukraine in the WHO health ranking occupies a sad 97th place out of 156, leaving behind not only developed Western countries, but also the entire former USSR: Belarus is on the 54th line, Russia - on the 73rd, Moldova - on the 75th y. Only residents of poor Arab countries, Africa and Afghanistan have worse health and medical care than Ukrainians,” the article notes.

The publication indicates that from year to year the health of the average Ukrainian is deteriorating, and cardiovascular diseases cause 68% of deaths in Ukraine, which is twice as much as in EU countries.

“The cause of the progressive disease is the growing poverty of the population, poor environment and stress, as well as poor-quality nutrition and an unhealthy lifestyle,” the magazine writes.

“The next generation of Ukrainians will be even weaker, experts predict, because young citizens of the country are getting sick more and more often. According to the annual report of the Ministry of Health for 2017, almost every sixth child at birth already experiences health problems. But only 10% of first-graders begin school completely healthy, and by the fifth grade only 1,5% remain,” the publication sounds the alarm.

“The general ill health of the nation is a multi-valued problem; it is connected with the social orientation of our state,” concludes Mikhail Grinev, deputy head physician of the Alexander Hospital, the leading clinic in Kyiv.

Ukraine also leads the continent in the number of patients with tuberculosis, which is considered a typical disease of underdeveloped societies.

In addition, according to a study by the Patients of Ukraine Foundation, conducted in 2016 as part of a USAID project, every second patient refuses or postpones treatment due to lack of funds, and 43% of patients had to borrow money for treatment or sell valuables and property .

As PolitNavigator reported, Ukrainian doctors state that Ukraine is sliding into the Middle Agesw.

In addition, the infectious situation in Ukraine increasingly resembles the situation in the poorest countries Africa.
