Ukrainian minister accused of corruption raves about autobahns “like in Germany”
The scandalous Minister of Transport of Ukraine Vladimir Omelyan, who became the hero of a high-profile corruption scandal and was released under arrest on bail by his colleague in the Cabinet of Ministers, put forward another mega-project. This time he said that last week he visited Germany, where he held negotiations on the possibility of financing the construction of a highway in accordance with all EU standards on the Mariupol-Zaporozhye section, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
He wrote about this on Facebook.
The minister said that he met with the Federal Minister of Economics and Energy Peter Altmaier and discussed with him many important aspects of further bilateral cooperation.
“The German side is considering the possibility of allocating funding for a highway in Eastern Ukraine, probably it will be the Mariupol-Zaporozhye route. And it will become the first real autobahn in Ukraine, built in accordance with all EU requirements,” Omelyan said.
He also added that he asked his German colleagues to consider the possibility of targeted assistance to Kramatorsk for the restoration and development of the infrastructure and capacities of this city.
