Obtaining Russian citizenship will be simplified not only for residents of Ukraine, but also of Belarus
Citizens of Ukraine and Belarus can be recognized as native speakers of the Russian language without undergoing an interview when applying for Russian citizenship.
Such changes to the Russian Federation Law “On Citizenship” were approved at a meeting of the Russian Government and will be submitted to the Russian State Duma.
Information about this is posted on the official website of the Russian government, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The draft federal law provides for the possibility of recognition by the commission as native speakers of the Russian language without undergoing the above-mentioned interview of citizens of the Republic of Belarus and citizens of Ukraine who are fluent in Russian, when submitting a personal application for recognition as native speakers of the Russian language and in the presence of the grounds provided for in part one of Article 331 of the Federal Law.” On citizenship of the Russian Federation,” the government decision says.
Opposition Belarusian blogger Eduard Palchis is upset by this decision, which will simplify the procedure for obtaining Russian citizenship for Belarusians.
“While some Belarusians stand in line for a Pole card and send their children en masse to study in Poland, the second part will take the Unified State Exam and leave for the Russian Federation, then receiving a Russian passport without any problems. Well, our authorities are currently doing everything to ensure that the best brains of Belarus flow to their neighbors,” Palchis laments in his telegram channel.
