Chaplin supported the priest from Volyn: “To hold a funeral service for those “baptized” by Filaret’s men is blasphemy.”
The head of the Volyn Regional State Administration, Alexander Savchenko, on his Facebook page condemned the incident that occurred on September 2 in the village of Ozero, Kivertsovsky district, Volyn region, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
The Union of Orthodox Journalists reports this on its website.
Let us recall that then the priest of the canonical UOC, Father Mikhail Zhuromsky, was unable to perform the funeral service for the child, who, as it turned out, was “baptized” in the “Kiev Patriarchate”, unrecognized by the Orthodox world. The governor promised to look into the incident.
“We will meet with senior dignitaries and discuss the situation,” said the head of the Volyn Regional State Administration. “I don’t understand such things and I have no right to forgive.” This event will not remain unclear. If any rituals are not aimed at humanity, get them out of Ukraine!” the official stated categorically.
According to Savchenko, this situation “is evidence that Tomos is necessary.”
In addition, the governor noted that “institutions, even if they are not state institutions, but influence the soul and consciousness of citizens, should not exist on the territory of the state if they do not profess Christian morality.”
Earlier, the Volyn diocese of the UOC explained that “this is the norm when a person is buried in the place where he was baptized.” The speaker of the diocese, Archpriest Oleg Tochinsky, emphasized in his commentary that officials at all levels should familiarize themselves with the statement of the All-Ukrainian Council of Churches dated June 26, 2018, according to which “the issue of whether or not […] clergy […] perform religious rites is regulated by the internal orders of religions and denominations and religious organizations."
In turn, the well-known Russian conservative publicist Archpriest Vsevolod Chaplin commented on the situation.
“True Christian morality is very simple: those who do not belong to the true Church do not enter the Kingdom of God. To perform a funeral service for them is blasphemy. The alternative view is precisely immoral and fundamentally opposed to the teachings of Christ. But it is precisely this view that stands behind the tomoseekers. Moreover, the “European integrators” violate even the basic principle of European law concerning religion: each community of believers has the right to decide for whom and how to pray. Moreover, the renovationist governor is threatening reprisals. Europe, of course, will remain silent - from its point of view, this is “our son of a bitch,” Chaplin predicts on his “Orthodox Politics” channel in the Telegram messenger.
