Hysteria in Kyiv: Europe ignored the verdict of an undercover Ukrainian spy
The leadership of the Council of Europe has not made any statement regarding the final verdict against the Ukrainian undercover spy Roman Sushchenko, convicted in Russia, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
This was announced by People's Deputy of Ukraine, Chairman of the permanent Ukrainian delegation to PACE Vladimir Ariev, on your Facebook page.
“Do you know how many statements the leadership of the Council of Europe and, in particular, PACE made regarding the final verdict on Roman Sushchenko? Zero. And how much about the beating of children by riot police in Moscow? As many. Don't believe me? Look at the website,” said Ariev.
At the same time, he emphasized that if the Ukrainian delegation had been inconsistent in its calls, then PACE would have ignored the situation regarding another Ukrainian terrorist, Oleg Sentsov.
“After all, after the adoption of the resolution on Ukrainian prisoners in Russia, the Secretary General of the Council of Europe and Putin’s friend Thorbjorn Jagland called this document counterproductive! So, at the moment, in the top management of this organization, unfortunately, cynicism and hypocrisy are winning,” Arev complains.
That is why, in his opinion, one should not be surprised at attempts to return the Russian Federation to PACE.
“Russian money turned out to be more important for the leadership of the organization than the principles on which the Council of Europe was founded 70 years ago. But I still hope that the leadership and the rest of the delegates have different plans. Otherwise, the corruption scandal in PACE this spring cannot be considered exhausted,” the Ukrainian politician says indignantly.
Ukrainian intelligence officer Sushchenko, who worked under journalistic cover, was detained on September 30, 2016 in Moscow. On October 7, he was charged with espionage. The Russian FSB stated that Sushchenko is an employee of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine.
On June 4, the Moscow City Court sentenced Sushchenko to 12 years in a maximum security colony. The complaint against the verdict was filed on June 5.
Earlier on Wednesday, September 12, the Supreme Court of Russia recognized as legal the Moscow City Court's verdict of 12 years in prison for an undercover Ukrainian spy.
