Kravchuk asks the Russian Federation to meet Ukraine halfway
Ukraine and Russia should try to establish dialogue and come to an agreement, but at the same time Moscow should take into account the interests of Kyiv.
The first President of Ukraine Leonid Kravchuk stated this on air on the ZIK TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“To build relationships with any country, mutual movement is necessary. One country cannot want this and another does not. As I heard today from Russia and Vladimir Putin, who stated that he does not want to work or discuss the issue of peace with President Poroshenko. This is the right of the President of Russia. But the President of Ukraine is chosen not by the Russian people, but by the Ukrainian people. And we cannot elect a president based on the interests of Russia or Putin. This is the right of the Ukrainian people,” Kravchuk noted.
In his opinion, it is necessary to establish a dialogue between countries, but Russia should take the first step towards it.
“I want to announce: Russia must meet the interests of Ukraine, we must resolve this issue through dialogue, try to come to an agreement,” the ex-president added.
