Poroshenko’s impudence has reached even Europe
Amendments to the Constitution of Ukraine, prepared by Petro Poroshenko’s team, do not take into account the need to resolve the conflict in Donbass and the peculiarities of the situation in Donetsk and Lugansk.
This is stated in the commentary of the Venice Commission, which published its findings on the decentralization of the country promised by the Ukrainian leadership.
“The draft amendments do not provide a constitutional basis for proposals aimed at resolving the current conflict in Ukraine,” the Venice Commission concludes Kommersant newspaper.
One of the leaders of the LPR, Vladislav Deinego, confirmed to the publication that, contrary to the Minsk agreements, Poroshenko never began direct negotiations with Donbass and agreement with it on amendments to the Constitution of Ukraine, although the LPR and DPR sent their proposals to Kyiv.

Russian political scientist Oleg Bondarenko considers the remarks of the Venice Commission a serious signal for the Ukrainian authorities.
“Europe is beginning to understand that today’s Kyiv is engaged in profanation of the Minsk agreements and imitation of decentralization. Criticism of the Venice Commission, whose opinion has always been treated with reverence in Ukraine, is the first sign indicating that the assessment of the situation in Europe is changing.
The most important thing is that Kyiv will not be able to ignore the comments, because the European bureaucrats from the Venice Commission cannot be fooled.
And here’s what’s interesting: until recently, Russia said that Kyiv does not coordinate anything with the LPR and DPR regarding constitutional reform. Now Europe will talk about this. She will force Kyiv to decentralize. And let Kyiv try to ignore this,” Bondarenko told PolitNavigator.
My Kiev colleague, political scientist Kost Bondarenko, agrees with him.
“If Ukraine declares its determination to follow the European channel, then it is impossible not to listen to the conclusions of the Venice Commission in this situation. It is necessary to significantly study the issue of special status for the DPR/LPR, Donetsk and Lugansk regions...
When communicating with individual European politicians, you can hear how much the tone has changed; Europe is disappointed with what is happening in Ukraine. The European Union, in general, is an association based on economic interests, which are aimed at ensuring that the situation is normalized, since everything that is located east of the borders of the European Union is seen as a huge market that must be fought for and valued. And the conflict in eastern Ukraine undermines the interests of European business,” says the Ukrainian political scientist.
