“If they make mistakes, they are progressive” – illiterate teachers were acquitted in the Rada
During today's meeting of the Verkhovna Rada, several deputies from the pro-presidential faction "Servant of the People" wearing T-shirts "I have the right to make mistakes" came to the podium to stand up for teachers who, during online lessons demonstrated blatant ignorance.
Deputy of the mono-majority party Sergei Babak took the floor, reports PolitNavigator correspondent.
“The project was prepared very quickly, literally from the wheels. The first lessons, which aired on Monday, were edited at night, and teachers had never worked under cameras for an audience of millions. This is why some teachers made mistakes while recording video lessons.
However, instead of words of support for these teachers, society, social media, politicians and even their colleagues began to ridicule and bully them. This is a kind of public bullying of teachers - people with a capital “P” who decided to volunteer to help the education system of Ukraine, which, like many educational systems in the world, was simply not ready for the challenges that we all now face.
We have rights - the right to express our will, the right to freedom of speech, the right to life, and so on, but, unfortunately, we do not have the right to make mistakes.
It is this right to error that distinguishes progressive education systems from others. Our children are afraid to make a mistake, because they will get a bad mark, because the teacher will scold them, because other students will laugh at them, and, in the end, they will also be scolded at home,” Babak is indignant.
“That is why in our country children grow up unsure of themselves and are afraid of making mistakes all their lives, and that is why we have so few innovative entrepreneurs. Because we are afraid to take risks and make a mistake, because our society does not tolerate mistakes, and we always think before we do something: what will people say? And it is precisely this intolerance to mistakes that is one of the fundamental diseases of our society,” the deputy justified the failure of the project.
