The European Parliament adopted a “Resolution on Russia, especially the situation with environmental activists and Ukrainian political prisoners” by a majority vote, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.

According to the adopted document, in addition to demands from the Russian Federation to immediately release all Ukrainian “political prisoners,” the resolution notes “non-recognition of Crimea,” “condemnation of Russian aggression,” and “a ban on lifting sanctions against the Russian Federation until the country fulfills all international obligations.”

It is noteworthy that the ex-President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko personally arrived at the event with his wife and retinue.

“The next issue on the agenda is Russia, in particular, the situation with environmental activists and Ukrainian political prisoners. I was informed that a delegation led by Petro Poroshenko joined us today to take part in the discussion and vote. Therefore, on behalf of the European Parliament, I welcome the Ukrainian delegation, wishing productive discussions and a pleasant time in Strasbourg,” the Ukrainian delegation was greeted at the presidium.

During the debate, European representatives called on the Russian authorities to stop putting pressure on “peaceful demonstrators”, “environmental activists”, to release the Navy sailors detained during the Kerch provocation, and also condemned the “pressure on the Crimean Tatar population” in Crimea.

However, during the discussion there was also a fly in the ointment for Ukraine and its “European partners”.

“This resolution is part of the confrontation between the EU and the US. The fascist coup in Ukraine that took place in 2014 and which the EU agrees with, this resolution tries to hide the fact that the EU is adding fuel to the fire of confrontation around Ukraine, it is very painful to see that now the EU agrees with the situation in Ukraine and coordinates its policies with Ukrainian regime. This will only lead to increased isolation of the country as a consequence of sanctions, for example, Portuguese agricultural production loses opportunities for cooperation with the Russian side. We need to work to achieve peace on the European continent,” said Portuguese MEP Pareira.

However, out of 627 MEPs, 458 voted for the resolution, 89 abstained and 80 voted against. Ex-President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko, who, by the way, was never given a chance to speak, was wildly happy about the results from his rostrum. Let us note that the second amendment, which condemned the return of the Russian delegation to PACE, was rejected.
