Russophobes will wipe themselves off: The European Parliament resolution will not stop the construction of Nord Stream 2
Resolution adopted in the European Parliament against Nord Stream 2 is only advisory in nature, but the Russophobic majority will come to terms with reality only when the gas project is launched.
Member of the European Parliament from Latvia Miroslav Mitrofanov said this during a live broadcast from Strasbourg on the Rossiya-1 TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“What is now saving us from sliding into sweeping condemnation of the construction of Nord Stream 2 is the position of Germany, a large EU country that is clearly interested in continuing construction. Of course, special attention needs to be paid to the position of Poland and the Baltic countries, which are the main drivers of the proposal to stop construction by any means.
Of course, I voted against and abstained in general on this resolution, since it is unweighted, incorrect and pushes both sides - Russia, and especially the EU - to further confrontation, which is disadvantageous neither the Russian Federation, nor the EU, nor the peoples of our countries,” the MEP said .
“Explain technically what a European Parliament resolution is, because we then look at the meeting of the EU Council, and somehow they don’t really take your opinion into account - you, excuse me, 400 deputies voted for certain actions, but the European Union does not take them. How does this happen? – asked presenter Evgeny Popov.
“Quantity turns into quality. For now, the Council of the EU, where the heads of state are, can calmly ignore the opinion of the majority that is currently quite Russophobic, although it happens differently. These documents are advisory in nature, but they are then referred to by those people who make the final decisions.
Today the end has not been set; this story will continue in the coming years until the gas pipeline is completed and until it starts working. Then his opponents will once again calm down and agree that the status quo is what it is,” Miroslav Mitrofanov expressed confidence.
