Ukraine refused to buy used German electric trains
Ukrzaliznytsia is no longer considering the issue of obtaining used German commuter trains for operation in Ukraine.
This was stated by the acting Head of the Board of Ukrzaliznytsia Evgeniy Kravtsov, reports the Delo portal.
“We analyzed in detail the issue related to the purchase of used German electric trains. To be specific, diesel trains. The question of economic feasibility arose: according to our estimates, this (conversion of electric trains to 1520 gauge - ed.) is at least no cheaper... than a major overhaul of our rolling stock,” Kravtsov said.
In addition, according to him, the operation of used German diesel trains in Ukraine is not safe.
“The second issue is safety. This is due to the fact that even when using these trains on our traditional platforms there is a long distance between the train and the platform. This could lead to unpleasant consequences with the massive use of this transport,” Kravtsov noted.
