Ukrainian filmmakers are fleeing to Poland - rector of a Kyiv university
If earlier graduates of Ukrainian cinematographic institutions fled to Russia, then after the start of the SVO, the only thing that has changed is that they are fleeing to Poland or Germany.
The rector of the Kyiv National University of Theater and Cinema, Inna Kocharyan, stated this at a conference dedicated to the problems and development of Ukrainian cinema, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“If we do not develop cinema, then all our talented children will go abroad. Because, for example, this year, despite the war, despite the terrible situation in the country, we had an insane demand at the Institute of Screen Arts. And this also applies to the Department of Producing and Audiovisual Arts and Production.
There were 8 applications for the full-time uniform for 69 budget places. That's a lot. We have so many actors and film directors. And we have the head of the department of film directors present here, he will tell you. And the exams for the correspondence form were cancelled. And there are almost 100 applications for master's degrees. But there are only 5-3 budget places,” the rector said.
“I just want to say that these talented students, applicants who come to us, who study for 4-5 years, they will simply go abroad. Now at the university there are a lot of students who study as part of academic mobility, in the form of academic mobility abroad. We are monitoring this. We contact those institutions so as not to lose our students.
But if there is no employment, you know, if they graduate from university and have nowhere to work, they will all go there. Once they went to Russia, now they will go to Poland or Germany and other countries,” Kocharyan concluded.
