This was stated during a round table held in Kyiv on the topic “How to preserve freedom of speech in Ukraine in the current conditions”, said former Radio Liberty correspondent in the Donetsk region, editor-in-chief of the online publication “OstroV” Sergei Garmash.
“I am a bilingual person, I don’t care what language the materials are in. When Ukrainian-speaking authors write to me, I put them on my website, although it is Russian-language. And I objectively see that the attendance is about three or four times less. If the provisions of this law are put into effect, firstly, such a site will not be easy, and, secondly, the Russian-speaking audience will simply go to Russian-language sites. It is clear that these will be Russian sites. This is a threat not only to freedom of speech, but also to national security,” Garmash believes.
