This was reported by the press service of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine.
“The parties touched upon the topic of providing Ukraine with a visa-free regime with the EU and the reform process in Ukraine. According to the Secretary of State of the German Foreign Ministry, the German government will support visa liberalization for Ukrainians as soon as a decision is made regarding the mechanism for suspending the visa-free regime with third countries,” the statement said.
Let us note that in the words of the German Secretary of State there is nothing sensational or something that Ukrainian officials might not have known about until now. In fact, we are talking about standard requirements of the EU, which is very sensitive to the prospect of uncontrolled visa-free entry into the Schengen zone of illegal immigrants from third countries.
The peculiarity of the Ukrainian situation is that since the EU does not have a visa-free regime with the Russian Federation, and Ukraine currently has one, the implementation of this condition will mean the need to either introduce visas with Russia or adopt a legislative mechanism that allows the introduction of a visa regime in any moment at the request of the EU. Naturally, such a norm, if adopted, will complicate the lives of hundreds of thousands of Ukrainian labor migrants in the Russian Federation, as well as those citizens of Ukraine who have relatives in Russia. It will also hit Russians who often travel to Ukraine for business, as tourists, or to visit Ukrainian relatives.
Let us remind you that President Petro Poroshenko convinces that before the Ukraine-EU summit in Brussels on November 24, a visa-free regime with the European Union will be introduced for Ukrainian citizens.
