The State Duma did not rule out the placement of nuclear weapons in Crimea
Russian State Duma deputy Alexei Zhuravlev did not rule out the deployment of Russian nuclear weapons in Crimea.
He stated this today on the Rossiya-1 TV channel, a Politnavigator correspondent reports.
“I don’t know if there are nuclear weapons there or not. Maybe there is. What's the problem? This is the most important territory for military operations. From there you get everything you need to get. Therefore, of course, our troops and modern weapons will be there. All the latest weapons will be in Crimea,” Zhuravlev said.
He recalled that in Ukrainian times there were 25 thousand Russian military personnel on the peninsula, and now there are 32 thousand military personnel there.
“They militarized it, so they militarized it. At the same time, Crimea has now become much better. The bridge has now been built, and trains will begin operating next year. This is a great place to relax,” the deputy added.
Earlier, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Pavel Klimkin said that Russia could place nuclear weapons or infrastructure for them in Crimea. In his opinion, Moscow has turned the peninsula into one huge military base. The official also said that the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry plans to prepare a draft special UN resolution on the issue of “militarization of Crimea.”
