Hungarians at NATO headquarters warned: the ball is in Ukraine's court
Hungary promises to continue to block the work of the Ukraine-NATO commission due to the constant oppression of the rights of the Hungarian minority in Transcarpathia.
This was stated by Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjártó, speaking on the sidelines of the Brussels meeting of NATO member countries, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to him, only in this way can the Hungarian authorities help their compatriots in Ukraine.
“Hungary can unlock its veto power if the Ukrainians take the necessary steps to restore the rights of the Hungarian community living on their territory, which is in accordance with bilateral agreements and international law. The ball is in Ukraine’s court,” Szijjártó said.
Previously, Ukrainian diplomat Oleg Voloshin stated, that the Ukrainian authorities should be more careful in the conflict with Hungary - Kiev underestimates the seriousness of the steps that Budapest can take to protect the rights of the Hungarian population of Transcarpathia, whose rights are violated by the new education law, which provides for the closure of Hungarian schools.
