“The court, in fact, approved the shooting of a police officer, considering it not a serious crime. This is an ugly decision,” said the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Arsen Avakov.

“In the morning I asked the Prime Minister to convene an extraordinary meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers. I don’t see how, in such conditions, the police and guards forces can perform the unusual function of protecting courts. In accordance with Article 160 of the Law of Ukraine on the Judicial System and Status of Judges, appropriate security for courts must be carried out by a special judicial security service created. The creation of this service has been sabotaged for years by employees of the State Judicial Administration. It is unclear how the funds allocated from the state budget are spent.

In the current conditions of actual sabotage of judges and judicial administration, I will introduce a draft resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers on the termination of the functions of protecting judicial institutions by the National Police and the National Guard. Let them now protect themselves, since in the transition period they consider the gunshot wound of a policeman to be a minor offense!” – the minister is indignant.

“The policeman was wounded in the leg and will take several months to recover his health. I wonder what decision the same judge would have made if the shot in the leg had been fired not at a police officer, but at the leg of another judge by the same citizen? Would she also have been released on bail or would the preventive measure have been different, more justified in this case?

In general, Judge Svetlitskaya’s decision to grant bail to a person who shot at a police officer opens up excellent opportunities for shooting at police officers, judges, and other citizens. After all, nothing will happen to you for this, unless, of course, you have a familiar people’s deputy who will take you on bail,” Verkhovna Rada deputy Anton Gerashchenko is indignant.
