Gazprom filed a lawsuit against Ukraine worth $6 billion
Gazprom challenged the decision of the Antimonopoly Committee of Ukraine on a multibillion-dollar fine in international arbitration, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
This was reported by the press service of the Russian gas monopolist.
“Today, Gazprom, in accordance with the UNCITRAL Arbitration Rules, initiated arbitration proceedings against Ukraine,” Gazprom said in a statement.
In 2016, the Antimonopoly Committee of Ukraine decided to impose a fine of UAH 85,9 billion, or about $3,2 billion, on the Russian Gazprom for violating the legislation on the protection of economic competition. Gazprom passed all the courts, but the courts left the Russian company’s complaints without consideration.
Subsequently, the AMCU accrued 100% of the penalty on UAH 85,9 billion to the fine of Gazprom PJSC in the amount of UAH 85,966 billion.
In December 2016, the Economic Court of Kyiv satisfied the claim of the Antimonopoly Committee of Ukraine for the forced collection of fines and penalties from Gazprom in the amount of UAH 172 billion.
In early March, Minister of Justice Pavel Petrenko announced that the Ministry of Justice had created a working group to collect UAH 172 billion in fines from Gazprom in jurisdictions with which Ukraine has a legal assistance agreement.
On March 20, Petrenko announced that all Gazprom funds that were located on the territory of Ukraine were arrested and transferred to the state budget.
