Poroshenko stated this in an interview with Deutsche Welle (DW).
To the journalist’s question, “but you promised to be different from the oligarchs, who have their own media,” Poroshenko replied that he was already different: “I’m different. If you look at Channel 5, it criticizes the authorities the most and is one of the freest. There are journalists with reputations there,” Poroshenko noted.
To the journalist’s question “why do you need a channel? Which other European president has his own TV channel…” Poroshenko said that he is a guarantor of press freedom.
“I am a guarantor of press freedom, and the standards of work of journalists at Channel 5 do not cause criticism. The relationship between me and journalists is absolutely transparent,” Poroshenko emphasized.
As for fulfilling the promise to sell the Roshen corporation, then, according to Poroshenko, no one wants to buy it. And therefore its sale is not moving.
