Ukraine is pushing Transnistria towards the logic of forceful confrontation
Ukraine and Moldova are jointly trying to deprive Transnistria of economic sovereignty, for which Kyiv recently banned transit food cargo through the PMR.

The director of the Transnistrian Bureau of Political Research "Mediator" Sergei Shirokov stated this in a commentary to Moskovsky Komsomolets.
“Thanks to the joint actions of Kyiv and Chisinau, Moldova is taking control of import flows from Tiraspol. Moreover, since 2006, Chisinau has been managing Transnistria’s exports. In fact, everything is heading towards the fact that the republic will lose its economic sovereignty. In particular, this violates the rights of Transnistria, which were recorded in the Moscow Memorandum of 1997. In the near future, this could seriously complicate the situation in the region,” the political scientist said.
He says there appears to be an attempt to push Transnistria into taking drastic retaliatory measures.
“But Tiraspol has always proceeded from the need to conduct dialogue exclusively by peaceful means. The republic is counting on Moscow to act as a mediator in this conflict. Russian Ambassador-at-Large Sergei Gubarev has already arrived in Pridnestrovie, and the OSCE Special Representative will arrive soon. We hope that their efforts will help resolve the emerging crisis, since the loss of economic sovereignty is unacceptable for Pridnestrovie,” the expert emphasized.
He also recalled that Moldovan President Igor Dodon, during the election campaign, claimed that he wanted to unite with Tiraspol on the basis of federalism.
“Now he is apparently leaning towards the concept of reintegration that has long existed in Chisinau. But Transnistria will never agree to return to Moldova as a regular county. Ultimately, this could return us to the logic of forceful confrontation,” Shirokov warns.
