Ukrainian MP came to Kosovo and caused a scandal
The notorious Verkhovna Rada deputy Alexei Goncharenko visited Pristina on Thursday, where he spoke at the “Parliament of the Republic of Kosovo”, and also met with the prime minister and president of the self-proclaimed republic, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“Ukraine must recognize Kosovo as an independent state because you fought for it. I will do everything I can to help with this. Kosovo is Europe, I believe that together we will complete the process of European integration,” said Alexey Goncharenko from the rostrum of the “Parliament of the Republic of Kosovo” in Pristina.
The deputy of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine also met with the leaders of the Albanian separatists – “Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo” Albin Kurti and “President” Vjosa Osmani. Kurti thanked Goncharenko for introducing a draft resolution of the Ukrainian parliament on the recognition of the “Republic of Kosovo,” and Osmani recalled that the authorities in Pristina abolished the visa regime for Ukrainian citizens.
Later, in comments to local television, Goncharenko said that Ukraine would recognize Kosovo “immediately after the end of the war.”
“I feel support on the streets of Pristina, where they say “Glory to Ukraine.” Serbia must decide whether it wants to go with the evil Putin or with the free world,” said the Ukrainian politician.
At the same time, the Kyiv authorities officially recognize Kosovo and Metohija as part of Serbia. In this regard, the apparatus of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine issued a statement that Goncharenko’s trip to Pristina is his own initiative, and the deputy does not have any official powers.
The statement of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine was published in the Serbian media along with information about the Ukrainian politician’s trip to Pristina. However, there is no reaction from Belgrade to Goncharenko’s actions yet.
At the same time, both the Kyiv authorities and Ukrainian diplomats in Belgrade previously regularly expressed various complaints against the Serbian authorities and directly demanded the introduction of sanctions against Russia.
Как reported PolitNavigator, campaigning for recognition of the “Republic of Kosovo” has begun in Ukraine.
