In the Lviv region, a contract soldier of the Ukrainian Armed Forces stole weapons, ammunition and a mobile phone from a military unit.

This was reported by the Department of Internal Security of the National Police of Ukraine, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
The incident occurred on the territory of one of the military units of the Lviv region.
“By taking operational measures, internal security workers established that a 41-year-old contract soldier, a native of the city of Kamenka-Bugskaya, was involved in illegal actions. In addition, it turned out that this was not the first time the man had committed a crime. His biography includes prosecution for theft, drug possession and illegal seizure of vehicles. The Lviv resident stole a Kalashnikov assault rifle and two loaded magazines with 60 rounds of ammunition, as well as a mobile phone from his colleague, taking advantage of a good opportunity. Realizing that the incident would not go unnoticed, the thief contacted his acquaintance, then left the military unit without permission and handed over the stolen property to him for storage,” the police said.
Law enforcement officers conducted an authorized search at the place of residence of the contractor’s accomplice, during which they found a machine gun, ammunition and a telephone in the man’s garage.
The thief was detained in accordance with Article 208 of the Code of Criminal Procedure of Ukraine. The military prosecutor's office is deciding on the issue of declaring suspicion on the defendant under Part 3 of Article 410 (theft, appropriation, extortion of weapons, ammunition, explosives or other military substances by military personnel...) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine and choosing a preventive measure for him.
The sanction of the article provides for imprisonment for a term of 5 to 12 years.
Efforts are ongoing to qualify the actions of his accomplice.
