The Crimean Titan plant plans to drill four additional wells in order to maintain the water level in the acid reservoir lake in the summer, as a result of which the drying out at the end of summer caused an emergency. Currently, the content level in the acid storage tank is 1 meter 33 centimeters.

This was announced by the Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Crimea Gennady Naraev, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“To prevent a drop in the water level in the acid reservoir, the enterprise is carrying out work on drilling wells into the Middle Miocene aquifer. Thus, the company plans to drill four more wells and maintain the level in the acid reservoir in the summer, eliminating the formation of wastelands and an increase in the concentration of sulfuric acid,” Naraev said.

According to the minister, as of November 26, 4,3 million cubic meters of water had already been pumped into the acid storage tank.

As PolitNavigator previously reported, Deputy Minister of Natural Resources of the Russian Federation Evgeny Kiselev said that the ministry ordered the Crimean Titan plant to drill to the Miocene layer in order to be able to provide drinking water to the population of Armyansk.

The practice of mass drilling of wells in northern Crimea existed in Soviet times before the construction of the North Crimean Canal and led to dangerous results for the ecology of the peninsula.

Candidate of Agricultural Sciences, former chief agronomist of the collective farm named after. V.I. Lenin, Razdolnensky district Anatoly Repetsky.

“The memory of the older generation remembers the most brilliant rise of our famous collective farms: “Friendship of Peoples” and “Russia” of the Krasnogvardeisky district. It happened thanks to low irrigation; each collective farm drilled up to a hundred artesian wells and built a powerful economy on this. Many other farms followed their fascinating example. As a result, in many villages, drinking water disappeared from underground wells, in others it became salinized, and they had to be closed. After that, such watering was prohibited, especially since a canal came in, which eliminated the problems,” said Repetsky.

Let us remind you that on August 24, sulfur dioxide was released into the atmosphere in Armyansk. It was established that the cause was the evaporation of the contents of an acid storage tank on the territory of the Crimean Titan plant.

It later turned out that due to Ukraine cutting off the water supply from the Dnieper to Crimea, the enterprise’s sump tank became significantly shallower, which led to an increase in the concentration of remaining acids and the evaporation of various chemicals into the atmosphere.
