In the USA, a sentence was passed for “laundering” Yanukovych’s money
The District of Columbia District Court on Tuesday handed down the first verdict in Special Counsel Robert Mueller's investigation into alleged Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election, PolitNavigator reports.
Alex van der Zwaan, who pleaded guilty in February to making false statements to Mueller's team and FBI investigators, was sentenced to 30 days in prison and a $20 fine, NBC News reports.
33-year-old London lawyer Alex van der Zwaan is the husband of the eldest daughter of Russian businessman Herman Khan, Eva.
He was accused of making false statements to Federal Bureau of Investigation agents regarding his collaboration with Paul Manafort's junior partner Rick Gates.
The last two are accused of fraud during their work in Kiev in 2005-2014.
In October 2017, they were indicted on 12 counts of conspiracy against the United States, tax evasion, and money laundering received from the Yanukovych government during their “Ukrainian period.” Both pleaded not guilty.
