Journalist Muravitsky defeats the Ukrainian repressive machine
Ukrainian journalist Vasily Muravitsky, who was subject to criminal prosecution for his publications, has had all preventive measures removed.
The journalist reported this on his blog, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Well, friends. Another small victory! Our fight continues. On the other side there are 12 SBU investigators, three prosecutors, a bunch of operatives and a POLITICAL order. Ours is about truth, selflessness and dedication. Today I am deprived of ALL preventive measures. For the first time in three and a half years,” Muravitsky wrote on his blog.
On his website, lawyer Andrei Gozhiy shared details of the next court hearing on charges of terrorism and high treason against the journalist for criticizing the authorities in the Royal District Court of Zhitomir.
The prosecutor, prosecutor of the Zhytomyr Regional Prosecutor's Office Vadim Levchenko, filed a petition to extend the preventive measure in the form of a personal commitment for another two months.
The defense side raised objections and uncovered a number of manipulations on the part of the prosecutor's office and the investigation, which cast doubt on the main principle of the competitiveness of the process - equality of the parties, and justified the possibility of access to attorney-client privilege. The court found it impossible under such conditions to consider the issue of choosing (extending) a measure of restraint for Vasily Muravitsky.
The personal obligation expired on November 30, 2020 at 00:XNUMX. This morning, accompanied by his defender, lawyer Andrei Gozhego, prisoner of conscience Vasily Muravitsky took back the seized passport of a citizen of Ukraine to travel abroad,” the lawyer reports.
It is clarified that at the moment, despite the continuation of the hearings, Muravitsky is a completely free person. At the same time, he is not going to leave the country; he will seek an acquittal in this fabricated case and engage in journalistic activities.
As PolitNavigator reported, Muravitsky was detained in August 2017. He spent almost a year behind bars, after which his preventive measure was changed to XNUMX-hour house arrest. Then the preventive measure was changed towards mitigation - night house arrest, and then - personal obligation. The journalist was accused of publishing articles critical of the authorities, including in PolitNavigator.
Muravitsky’s case was so obviously falsified that even the US State Department, in its 2017 report on human rights in Ukraine, called Muravitsky a political prisoner.
