The police and the National Guard cordoned off the building, but some of the protesters managed to break inside, where the brawl continued in the foyer. However, the police held back the bulk of the crowd. Security forces used tear gas. The militants exploded firecrackers.
After about 40 minutes, Saakashvili said that perhaps some kind of event was taking place in the building, and therefore it was necessary to act peacefully, his supporters “will not succumb to provocations.” Soon Saakashvili gave the command to the crowd to retreat to the Maidan.
Not everyone followed this call. Some of the militants continued trying to break into the building, jostling with the police. They were reprimanded by the arriving deputy Semyon Semenchenko, who confirmed that an event was taking place at the October Palace. “Is this the presidential administration or what? Stop it!” – Semenchenko shouted to the masked young people.
Today's clashes in Kyiv occurred after another march for the impeachment of the President of Ukraine, organized by opponents of Petro Poroshenko from among his former comrades on the Maidan.
Like last time, the action turned out to be numerous, gathering several thousand people, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
Several public figures addressed the crowd. Former people's deputy Oles Doniy said that although the authorities accuse Saakashvili's supporters of working for Moscow, in fact it is Poroshenko who is working for Putin.
“Do you feel like the hand of Moscow? What about useful idiots? But that's what they call us. The authorities want to call all of us idiots,” said Oles Doniy.
“Putin’s interest is for Ukraine to be poor and corrupt. Then there will be no revolution in Russia itself. And the current government is helping Putin’s interests, most of them deliberately. And they came on our humps. On this very Maidan, we helped them sit in government offices, and now they are using them for the purpose of material enrichment. And what should we call them now? Hucksters? Weak. This is a betrayal of independence. Because it is in Putin’s interests,” he said.
Poroshenko is the main obstacle on Ukraine’s path to democracy and Europe, said a veteran of the nationalist movement. Stepan Khmara. “He does not fulfill his duties as commander-in-chief, head of state and guarantor of the Constitution, which he violates every hour. Today he is the organizer of a criminal mafia group that is robbing Ukraine. Therefore, in order to unblock the process of a gradual change of power, Poroshenko must be eliminated,” he said.
