A meeting with Russian TV presenter Artem Sheinin in Verona, Italy, made an indelible impression on former ATO participant Valera Ananyev. He dedicated two long videos to her on his blog, and after recording the first stream, as he himself admitted, he fainted.

Seeing Sheinin, Ananyev began to follow him, followed him into the pharmacy, and tried to eavesdrop on his conversation with his wife.

“I really hoped that it wasn’t him, but I hear Russian speech, and I understand that it’s him. And I thought: bitch, I’ll gouge out your eyes,” said Valera.

He spoke to the TV presenter in Russian, but he immediately understood from the accent who he was dealing with. Then Ananyev began to be rude. He asked whether Sheinin believed what he was talking about on the screen. The TV presenter replied that he believed. The Ukrainian’s arguments ended there, and he spat at his opponent.

“I looked like a moron, I couldn’t put two words together. I could only spit and wait for him to answer. My head completely turned off, I acted on instincts. My left leg was shaking so much that I thought I was going to fall. Consciousness narrowed on him,” Valera said confusedly and excitedly.

He tried to grab Sheinin by the shoulder, but the “hero’s” girl held him back. The TV presenter, as luck would have it, demonstrated “cold, dishonest humility” (Valera is unlikely to have read Shakespeare, but this is how the ancient Verona duelist Mercutio characterized such behavior).

Sheinin began to exhort Valera to calm down, stop poking and generally behave decently. Ananyev was offended by this, because he believed that he “behaved quite cultured.”

“I told him 20 times that I wanted to kill him. I expected him to hit or push, but he didn’t. I spat again, he wiped himself off again and began to tell me how he fought in Afghanistan. “Spitting in the face is, of course, somehow feminine, but what else could I do,” Valera lamented.

Despite his extreme nervous excitement, the Ukrainian realized that if he himself provoked a fight, he would be detained by the Italian police.

“You can learn this in Ukraine. If I had met Solovyov or Kiselev, I would have killed them. And because of this, I didn’t want to go to an Italian prison,” Valera justified himself to his subscribers.

To calm down after talking with Sheinin, Valera went to a cafe to drink wine. There he recorded his first stream. Despite his excited state and shaking hands, the author did not forget to twice advertise the travel agency that sent him to Italy. Leaving the cafe, he lost consciousness, although he insists that he only drank one glass.

In the evening, Valera went on air again from the hotel.

“I'm not sure I'll sleep. I’ll go over it in my brain, like I did in childhood, going through what could have been done differently. I hope that he won’t forget me either,” Valera said.
