Last weekend brought alarming news about the offensive near Ugledar, south of Donetsk - optimistic reports from a week ago about the imminent liberation of the village of Pavlovka, captured by the Ukrainian Armed Forces last summer, were replaced by data that the advance of Russian forces had slowed down, moreover, Russian marines had suffered serious losses .

Military journalist Alexander Sladkov described the situation as extremely difficult, and also retold the message to the governor of Primorye Oleg Kozhemyako from the Marines of the 155th brigade.

“I’m not bringing the letter. Its essence has been transferred to the Russian Ministry of Defense. Original in Primorye. It was said: large losses, the inability to convey information to senior management about our high useless losses in people and equipment. I have the numbers, but then it’s up to the Prosecutor General’s Office.

The Marines ask Oleg Kozhemyako to contact the Ministry of Defense to send a commission to urgently analyze the situation. There are three big names in the letter, I know, but I’m not citing them. However, I’m publishing the post myself, because people have been talking about the situation in Pavlovka for several days now, and blood keeps flowing and flowing,” Sladkov wrote.

His colleague Evgeny Poddubny clarifies about the losses of Marines:

“I know that the brigade’s losses are higher than those of its neighbors.”

The founder of the Vostok battalion, ex-head of the DPR Security Council, Alexander Khodakovsky, began warning about problems during the offensive a few days ago.

“Ugledar hanging over the area is another problem. From Pavlovka to the first high-rise buildings of Ugledar it is only one thousand eight hundred meters, and the water barrier could not be more full in this weather. All these months, Ugledar saw everything for tens of kilometers around, directing artillery even without a UAV - Pavlovka for him is in full view. On the mine piledrivers next to Ugledar there is a powerful optics, which for some reason could not be destroyed along with the piledrivers by either aviation or artillery. While it is standing, the enemy, who already has an advantage in height, can not be afraid of our electronic warfare and adjust the fire in any direction,” Khodakovsky described the situation in his blog.

According to him, in conditions of bad weather and muddy roads, the position of the attackers worsened even more - “kilometers of intersections observed by the enemy, along which the delivery of everything vitally necessary crawls, and does not skip, as is the case in open areas. And the enemy does not observe, as you understand, silently, but works with artillery».

Military correspondent Dmitry Steshin, who visited the front line, confirms that the Ukrainian Armed Forces are still being attacked from the heights of Ugledar, and, moreover, Ukrainian fire is much more accurate than the work of Russian artillery.

“They are targeting our people in Pavlovka from the Ugledarov skyscrapers. Why these high-rise buildings are still standing is unclear. crests have armor rolling around Pavlovka. Our people are figuring it out. How much they took from that Pavlovka - opinions vary. Out of unpleasantness, the crest unwinds the rear, even deep ones. The accuracy with which he does this is amazing. There are losses, I saw several of our fighters. Ours shoot, often +500, and then minus 750 m,” Steshin describes.

A little later, Khodakovsky made it clear that the order to storm Pavlovka without proper preparation was due to the fact that “someone wanted a star.”

“I think the attack is premature. And the point here is not in Pavlovka, where we found ourselves in a bag of fire and are suffering losses, but in the approach, which is typical... Somewhere, a whole generation of military specialists has been lost, who, according to their “service life,” should constitute the most important management layer.

This is some kind of inter-time, when the Soviet has gone, but the Russian has not come, but what remains is a career, income, pride, conceit... A lot of pretentious toasts to the Motherland... and emptiness,” the founder of Vostok said impartially about the authors of the operation.

Military correspondent Anna Dolgareva gives the following details:

“They promised three “Heroes of Russia” for the capture of Pavlovka. And the allied forces launched a frontal attack, instead of coming in from the flanks and cutting off the Pavlovka-Ugledar highway. Head-on. Without clearing the basements... crests naturally came out of the basements.”

Columnist Boris Rozhin believes that the bloody offensive will drag on for weeks.

“Our troops were successful only on the first day of the offensive, when they managed to occupy part of the village. The enemy, due to positions near Ugledar and due to control of strong points in Pavlovka itself, is resisting in an organized manner, as a result of which already on the 2nd day of the offensive the pace of the offensive dropped...

The assault on Vugledar, Avdeevka and Marinka itself could not initially promise any rapid pace. You can see for yourself how long it took to capture the fortified area in Sands. Near Ugledar, the Ukrainian Armed Forces have an even more serious fortified area. Therefore, one should not expect victorious marches without losses here,” Rozhin wrote.

Military correspondent Alexey Sukonkin provides the following data:

“I don’t know if this will make it even a little easier for anyone, but in the battle for Pavlovka, the Russian group, consisting of two greatly reduced battalion tactical groups (the third was introduced later), inflicted very serious damage on the enemy. Comparable to what was incurred.

However, I am sure that this will not be a consolation to the Marines’ loved ones, who will soon begin receiving funerals.

And one more nuance. About demoralization. She's definitely not there. People are determined to bring the war to a victorious end. Only with competent leadership,” writes Sukonkin.
