Ukrainian media are furious: the OSCE did not detect the Russian army in Donbass
The OSCE Special Monitoring Mission was unable to find direct evidence of the presence of Russian troops in Donbass.
About this in an interview with an American magazine Foreign Policy said First Deputy OSCE SMM Alexander Hug, answering the question of what the official position of the organization is on Russia’s participation in the conflict in Donbass.
“If the question is what was seen on the ground, then we did not see direct evidence. But we have seen convoys entering Ukraine in the middle of the night in areas where there is no official crossing. In one border area, we confirmed this with a video we released. We saw certain types of weapons, which we described in detail, including electronic warfare equipment,” said the Deputy Chairman of the OSCE SMM.
At the same time, he clarified that representatives of the mission spoke with Donbass militias captured by Ukraine, who claimed that they were representatives of the Russian armed forces.
“We saw men with Russian Federation insignia, but you can buy a jacket like this anywhere. We also saw insignia from Germany, Spain and others – but also Russians,” Hug added.
Such vague and proof-of-nothing formulations outraged the Ukrainian media.
For example, the Kiev online publication “Apostrophe” headlined the news about Hug’s interview as follows: “They didn’t notice: the OSCE made an absurd statement on the war in Donbass.”
As PolitNavigator reported, the UN report came to the conclusion that in Donbass there is non-international armed conflict.
In addition, in Kyiv there wereoutraged by the statement of the German Chancellor Angela Merkel, who called the conflict in Donbass a civil war.
