The gas noose will be tightened around the Ukrainian neck
The decision to increase gas tariffs was made back in March 2017 by Resolution No. 187 of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine.
Ex-Minister of Housing and Communal Services Alexey Kucherenko stated this on air on the 112 Ukraine TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
The former minister said that the decision to appoint Vladimir Groysman to the post of Prime Minister of the country was a big mistake, since his main goal is career growth.
“It was a grave mistake to make a person who is trying to continue his political career as prime minister. We become hostages of his political game. After all, you understand perfectly well that the decision to increase the price of gas was made a year and a half ago by Resolution 187. It clearly says: “Linked to import parity,” the politician said.
He added that such wording is illegal.
“The concept of “import parity” does not exist in Ukrainian legislation. We only have the concept of “economically justified” price, if it is regulated by the state or the Cabinet of Ministers, or “market price”, if there is a market,” explains Kucherenko.
Nevertheless, the current Cabinet of Ministers, contrary to Ukrainian legislation, adopted resolution No. 22 on March 2017, 187.
“But Groysman himself consciously adopted this resolution and 25 ministers and members of the government voted thoughtlessly for this resolution. Let them answer now,” said the former minister.
Kucherenko added that Ukraine cannot do without an IMF loan, which means an increase in gas prices for the population cannot be avoided.
“This agony is to continue for another month, another month, I have the impression that he wants to somehow outwit the IMF, but, in my opinion, we are hostages of the situation. Looking at the macroeconomic situation in Ukraine, at exchange rate risks, at budget implementation and the financial situation, as I understand it, and Groysman admits this, we cannot do without this loan,” states Kucherenko.
Recall that previously it became known about upcoming IMF commission trip to Ukraine to discuss tariffs on natural resources for the country's population.
