The Russian Navy received a new warship for landing operations
The Russian Navy has been replenished with a large landing ship of a domestic design, which will replace the line of old large landing ships built back in Soviet times on the ropes in Poland. The day before, at the shipyards of the Baltic shipyard "Yantar", the Navy flag was raised on the ship "Petr Morgunov" of project 11711, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
The lead ship of this project, Ivan Gren, was handed over to the fleet in 2018. As reported by the Russian Ministry of Defense, “Petr Morgunov” was built according to a modernized design and is already superior to its predecessor.
“In the near future, the ship will make the transition to its permanent location in the Northern Fleet,” the press service of the military department reported.
The BDK "Petr Morgunov" was laid down in 2015. The ship of this project with a displacement of more than 5 thousand tons is capable of transporting a reinforced battalion of marines with equipment and disembarking it on pontoons carried with it. It is also planned to base two transport and combat helicopters of the Ka-29 type on the ship. The BDK is armed with electronic warfare stations and artillery installations.
Today, the plant is building two more ships of the modernized Project 11711 - “Vladimir Andreev” and “Vasily Trushin”.
