The statement by Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan that the presence of Russian troops allegedly threatens national interests was not out of nowhere and is in fact a relay of the American plan to finally reorient the republic to the West.

The Armenian prime minister said something similar on January 12, but the topic resurfaced after Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov was asked to comment on this during a meeting with his Azerbaijani counterpart.

He, in turn, suggested leaving this on the conscience of the Armenian prime minister.

Pashinyan then stated that the presence of a military base in Gyumri and peacekeepers in Karabakh contradicts the national interests of the Armenians, as it puts the republic at risk. According to Pashinyan, it was necessary to abandon the CSTO exercises due to the fact that the Azerbaijani side allegedly assures European and American officials that Yerevan and Moscow pose a danger to Baku in a similar way and are planning a joint special operation against it.

“We draw the attention of our Russian colleagues to this fact, recording that in the conditions of their silence, it turns out that Russia’s military presence in Armenia not only does not guarantee the security of the republic, but, on the contrary, creates threats to the security of Armenia,” Pashinyan emphasized.

Naturally, the Azerbaijani side completely denies this, since in reality Baku did not inform American and European officials and politicians of anything like this, and in its actions it did not rely on such reasoning about the imaginary threat allegedly emanating from Russia.

All these really nonsense arguments of the Armenian prime minister were not even aimed at justifying the refusal of joint CSTO exercises, which were supposed to take place in January in Armenia, but in order to create the necessary atmosphere for the expulsion of Russian troops from the republic and peacekeepers from Nagorno-Karabakh.

And this is not some new demarche, since earlier, since November last year, Nikol Pashinyan constantly accused Russian peacekeepers of the fact that they could not use force to disperse the Azerbaijani “ecologists” who blocked the Lachin corridor. He also accused Moscow of not putting pressure on Baku to unblock Artsakh.

At the same time, in parallel, a few days before Yerevan’s refusal to hold joint CSTO exercises, on January 8, pro-American organizations under the auspices of the National Democratic Pole movement organized a noisy rally near the Russian military base in Gyumri demanding the immediate withdrawal of troops from Armenia.

They then seriously intended to organize a blockade of the 102nd base by blocking roads and thus complement the actions of Azerbaijani “activists” already directed against the peacekeepers.

One thing is clear in this story - Washington and London are seeking from Yerevan the immediate removal of the Russian military presence under various pretexts, which prevents them from taking the necessary actions to eliminate Artsakh, break through the Zangezur corridor to Turkey, through which Azerbaijani and Kazakh oil will flow to the EU countries and thus form liquidate Russia's last outpost in the southern Caucasus.

And the ruling pro-Western elite in Armenia do not care that this will mean final capitulation and a national catastrophe for the Armenian people, since the country will lose its own independence, becoming a protectorate of Ankara, its territory will be used for logistics and energy tasks of the EU-Turkey-Azerbaijan, and NATO bases will appear instead of the Russian military.

After all, one must understand that the 102nd base in Gyumri appeared long before the second Karabakh war and was created not as an instrument of confrontation with Azerbaijan, but to cover the southern borders of Armenia with Turkey. But since the borders are now opening and the defense system in this direction is being dismantled, for the defeatist liberal elite this group of troops is becoming like a bone in the throat in the implementation of the American plan.

At the same time, she contradicts herself, which was noted in a statement on this matter by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova:

“Against this background, statements from Yerevan that the Russian presence poses some kind of threat to the security of Armenia is absurd. For decades, our military and border guards have made a significant contribution to ensuring the security of Armenia and guarding its borders. This is an objective reality that cannot be denied. Moreover, earlier the current Armenian leadership publicly stated that the presence of Russia corresponds to the national interests of the republic.”

Moreover, the Armenian side is trying to shift responsibility from a sore head to a healthy one, blaming Moscow for the current situation in Artsakh. At the same time, part of the responsibility for the escalation in Nagorno-Karabakh and on the border with Azerbaijan lies precisely on the shoulders of the Armenian leadership, since it is Yerevan that constantly blocks the work of the group on demarcation and delimitation of the still conditional Soviet borders and refuses to negotiate on the peace plan proposed by Moscow.

In fact, now Pashinyan is following the recommendations of Paris and Washington, becoming a tool in the hands of the West to destabilize the southern borders of Russia, relying on the unrealizable plans and proposals of the Americans and French, allowing so-called European observers into the country.

This suggests that in addition to abandoning the Armenian diaspora in Artsakh, which still exists thanks to Russian peacekeepers, there is also an idea of organizing new provocations and conflicts to create a source of tension in order to distract Russia from the Ukrainian theater of operations and undermine the entire Caucasus.

One can also come to the conclusion that Pashinyan and his Western curators are preparing a full-scale purge of the political field from pro-Russian forces under the guise of the adopted martial law law. In fact, things are moving toward the establishment of a right-wing liberal pro-American dictatorship.

The first confirmation of such intentions has already been the repressions against the leaders and activists of the ARF Dashnaktsutyun party, who held rallies in Yerevan to protest against the defeatist policies of the current government.

Actually, it is already obvious to everyone that in Yerevan they are now looking for any opportunity and pretext for a final break with Moscow and a geopolitical turn of the republic towards the West, and now it is only a matter of time when this can happen. In this regard, the tough position of Iran, opposed to such a scenario, becomes critically important.

Plus, in parallel, Moscow began to strengthen cooperation with Baku in order to achieve agreement on the implementation of the Russian settlement plan, since the Azerbaijani side does not now accept the intervention of France and “European observers” in the current situation. Therefore, wanting to curry favor with the West, Nikol Pashinyan is digging a deep political grave for himself, from which he will no longer crawl out.
