The center of attention of the Ukrainian media was Olga Zagulskaya, a teacher at the Department of Physical Geography, who in her blog called the shelling of Mariupol “another multi-purpose provocation of the authorities” in order to “discredit the militia.”
“She is convinced that it was the Ukrainian government that “went to war in Donbass,” and the Right Sector is to blame for everything. It does not admit that Russia provides weapons to militants, but believes that “the militias are taking away the Grads from the Ukrainian military.” He also claims that they themselves learned to shoot from heavy artillery, which, again, was taken away in battle,” describes the Lviv publication Zaxid.net.
According to the publication, the native Lviv resident has long had views that are atypical for a resident of Western Ukraine - in 2004 she supported Yanukovych, and during the second Maidan she did not condemn the shooting of “peaceful activists.”
At the same time, the teacher’s colleagues note that while during the “Orange Revolution” Zagulskaya directly expressed her point of view, now she does not talk about this topic at all.
“If she once challenged her position somewhere between us and brought it to the attention of students, now her position is her personal matter. I can’t say that she is spreading and infecting us with her position somewhere here,” notes Lyudmila Kostiv, Associate Professor of the Department of Physical Geography.
A portal journalist attended Zagulskaya’s lecture and was convinced that politics was never mentioned there.
In an interview with the publication, Olga Zagulskaya herself notes that she was forced to take the side of the DPR and LPR by the actions of the Ukrainian authorities, who, after the coup in Kyiv, canceled the language reform and sent tanks to the dissenting residents of Donbass.
“When this law was repealed, I realized that this would be a certain encroachment on their rights. Only for reasons of fairness, and not because I have special feelings for the Russian language. Why should their language rights be limited? Why, when they want to celebrate May 9, are they forbidden to do so? If they don’t respect Bandera and Shukhevych, then why force these heroes on them?” – the teacher is perplexed.
It is worth noting that the SBU became interested in Zagulskaya’s blog posts, which, however, after checking, did not find anything criminal in them.
“In her publications there are no calls aimed at a violent change or overthrow of the constitutional order or the seizure of state power, for which one could be held criminally liable,” the department’s press service noted.
