Bulgarian “brothers” joined the intimidation campaign in Novorossiya
The opening ceremony of the US-Ukrainian exercise Sea Breeze 2018 took place today in Odessa. One of the episodes of the maneuvers is to practice landing troops on the coast, as well as countering enemy attacks from the sea.
More than two thousand military personnel are taking part in the exercises and about 30 vessels are involved, including the headquarters ship of the US 6th Fleet Mount Whitney, an American guided-missile destroyer, a Turkish frigate and a submarine.
The Russian Nezavisimaya Gazeta emphasizes that the United States is sending such forces to Odessa for the first time as part of the Sea Breeze, as if demonstrating support for official Kyiv.
“This is one of the largest contingents that the Americans have ever sent to these exercises... The military units of the “eastern neighbor”, that is, Russia, as well as real illegal armed groups from the armed militia of the unrecognized republics of Donbass appear as the enemy in Ukrainian combat training documents. The United States and other NATO partners of Kyiv agreed with such assessments of the potential enemy and the plan of Sea Breeze 2018,” the publication says.
Ukrainian patriots do not hide their joy at the appearance of a NATO squadron in the Odessa port. “Meet friends well armed with tomahawks, Odessa,” wrote economist Andrei Klimenko, who fled Crimea and now calls himself an “expert on the Maidan of Foreign Affairs,” in his blog.
The Dumskaya publication, controlled by Verkhovna Rada deputy Alexey Goncharenko, especially notes that Bulgaria joined the American maneuvers in Odessa this year for the first time, which is now represented by a small anti-submarine ship of a Soviet design.
“It is interesting that the Bulgarian Navy refused to participate in the Sea Breeze exercises for many years: apparently, the Republic of Belarus did not want to quarrel with Russia. Now, it seems, the situation has changed,” notes Dumskaya.
