The head of the German Foreign Ministry in Kyiv threatened Moscow regarding Nord Stream 2
Germany, together with its partners, are ready to “take action” regarding the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline if Russia’s position does not suit the West.
German Foreign Minister Annalena Bärbock stated this during a briefing in Kyiv, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The EU and Germany have recently been sometimes accused of lacking a clear position regarding Nord Stream 2. I would like to ask the minister: have you already decided whether this is an economic or political project?” – asked the Ukrainian journalist.
Baerbock responded that Nord Stream 2 is a political matter, and if Moscow’s actions do not suit Western countries, Germany is ready to join the US position and “take action.”
“The new government has made it clear that European energy law applies in Germany. This also applies to Nord Stream 2. At the moment, this issue is not fully implemented, therefore the certification process is currently suspended.
And, at the same time, we have a geopolitical nuance in this project. We talk about this all the time. And therefore we support the common statement of Germany and the United States - if there is further escalation on the part of the Russian Federation, we will take the necessary measures with our partners.
I would like to emphasize - when in 2014 the EU said that we must be more independent of energy imports for our security. The issue of energy security is an energy-political issue,” the foreign minister concluded.
Let us remember that earlier in Moscow they announced that Nord Stream 2 has already paid for itself, and moreover, opposition to the gas pipeline is also economically beneficial for Russia.
