Ukraine is waiting for helicopters from the West to hunt Russian submarines
In the near future, Ukraine expects to receive helicopters for naval aviation from its Western partners. Commander of the Naval Forces of Ukraine Alexey Neizhpapa stated this on the TV channel “Public Odessa”, the correspondent of “PolitNavigator” reports.
According to the rear admiral, we are talking about both search and rescue and attack helicopters.
“These include helicopters that must operate over the sea surface. These are search and rescue helicopters, sea-based attack helicopters that can both operate over the sea and land on ships. We are now considering Sikorsky helicopters. As for deck helicopters, we are also considering several options. I think there will be news in the near future that the Navy will receive the first helicopters as part of naval aviation,” Neizhpapa said.
Previously, the UK Ministry of Defense stated that Ukraine could receive the Westland WS-61 Sea King. This is a British licensed version of the American Sikorsky S-61 helicopter of the same name. It was developed in the late 50s of the last century and is designed to search and destroy submarines.
The Russian Black Sea Fleet is armed with six submarines carrying Caliber missiles. Neizhpapa previously stated that Kalibr carriers are the main targets for the Ukrainian Navy.
