Ukraine will not be given NATO membership - it is beneficial for the Alliance to keep Kyiv “on a leash” at its feet, but without any obligations - ex-people’s deputy
NATO is not going to give Ukraine the status of its member; the Alliance is happy with the situation as it is now, when a country in the center of Europe is almost completely subordinated to NATO interests, but without formal membership in this structure.

This opinion was expressed in a commentary to PolitNavigator by Georgy Kryuchkov, Soviet and Ukrainian politician, people's deputy of Ukraine of the 3rd and 4th convocations, former head of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Committee on National Security and Defense.
In his opinion, the current NATO policy towards Ukraine is a way of subjugating and colonizing a large state in the center of Europe.
“The policy of the state has become not even pro-NATO, but subordinate to NATO in everything. The intention to become a NATO member was declared at the state level. And this action (participation of NATO soldiers in the parade on August 24 - Ed.) is aimed at further “connecting” Ukraine with NATO and showing commitment to this policy. This may also indicate that the current government intends to further aggravate relations with Russia and is preparing for a war with Russia. We cannot exclude the possibility of the existence of such plans, although if they exist, then they are, of course, reckless,” says Georgy Kryuchkov.
According to politicians, Ukraine’s membership in the Alliance is not necessary for NATO.
“The current government (and the previous one) is doing everything that NATO demands; they are not giving Ukraine membership in NATO. Even, as you remember, agreements were not signed in Bucharest to adopt a plan to prepare for joining NATO. Not being a member of NATO and not having the opportunity to influence the decisions of the alliance, Ukraine is obliged to fulfill and does everything that it demands. Why should NATO give membership to such a state, which is ruled by corrupt officials, corruption has reached incredible proportions, the economy is collapsing, and which has a real possibility of colliding with Russia and dragging European states into this massacre? They don't need this. Therefore, NATO states that it encourages the desire to join, but Ukraine must “do its homework”, do this, that, that. And this government does everything they want from it,” says the former people’s deputy.
At the same time, Kryuchkov emphasizes, NATO representatives speak out and impose their vision on Kyiv not only on military-political issues, but also on issues, for example, pension reform, the fight against corruption, etc.
“This is a way of subjugating, colonizing a large state in the center of Europe. Such a large state as Ukraine, which until recently was among the ten most developed in the world. Therefore, there is no need to give it NATO membership; NATO is quite happy with what is happening now,” summarizes Georgy Kryuchkov.
