This was stated by Deputy Prime Minister Pavel Rozenko, the Government Portal reports.

“As of today, this discussion in the government has been completed, a political decision has been made, which is supported by both the president and the prime minister, that the Dovzhenko film studio is not subject to privatization. But this does not mean that it should remain in the form in which it currently exists. Because her condition is terrible,” he said on Channel 5 on the evening of January 31.

According to Rozenko, in past years they deliberately tried to destroy the film studio because it is located in the central part of Kyiv.

“Let’s speak frankly: the film studio was deliberately reduced to poverty so that a stage could come when one could say: well, you see, there is nothing, everything is in ruins, let’s build a shopping complex or an elite real estate district there... It was deliberately killed and reduced to poverty over the course of for a long time. Today, all that remains from the Dovzhenko National Film Studio is the name, a good name, part of the team and wonderful actors. But the material and technical base is actually in a state of decline,” he said.

Rosenko added that in the near future the Ministry of Culture, Goskino, together with the film studio, intend to develop a draft strategic plan for its development and modernization.

Let us remember that the Dovzhenko film studio was founded in 1925. Such masterpieces of Russian cinema as “Earth” by Dovzhenko, “Only Old Men Go to Battle” by Bykov, “Shadows of Forgotten Ancestors” by Parajanov, “Babylon XX” by Mikolaichuk were filmed here.

At the end of January, a new film from the studio was released under the symbolic title “The Tale of Money.”
