Kiev millionaire-Maidan activist: Young people en masse join ATO gangs due to unemployment
The participation of Ukrainian youth in nationalist battalions and corps is the only option for them to earn money. This was stated by Ukrainian businessman and politician Gennady Balashov (a criminal case has been opened against him in the Russian Federation for calling from the Maidan rostrum to kill holders of St. George ribbons and undermine gas pipelines).
According to Balashov, in conditions of unemployment and the inability to find work, young people join gangs and earn their living by robberies.

“A huge number of young people grow up, graduate from universities, and have nothing to do. And this is where crime arises. Because when a person leaves the army or graduates from university, he ends up in a completely different country. He must come somewhere and be busy somewhere, but there are no conditions. This means banditry will increase. Now, a huge number of young people are sitting in their yards scratching their heads about where to make money. And since there is no place to earn money, you have to steal it somewhere. There is also a third option - to join some civilian corps “Azov” or “Tornado”, to join someone in order to be an organized gang,” Balashov said.
He also emphasized that these formations are covered by the current head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Arsen Avakov. Moreover, he is arming the gangs, issuing premium weapons to former ATO soldiers: “The worst thing is that this process is controlled by the Minister of Internal Affairs. The Ministry of Internal Affairs issues pistols as gifts, that is, actually arming them. This is one of the forms of arming their gangs - a person served in the ATO, and the Minister of Internal Affairs gives him a reward weapon.”
