In Sumy region, police found a spontaneous toxic waste dump
A spontaneous dump of mercury lamps was discovered in the center of Shostka near garbage cans, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
This was reported to the city department of the National Police.
According to law enforcement officials, unknown persons left about 50 fluorescent lamps near the trash can.
“The lamps were taken by representatives of the State Emergency Service. The disposal of lamps will be handled by authorized organizations,” the police added.
Mercury (fluorescent) lamps belong to the 1st hazard class and it is strictly prohibited to throw them away with other waste. Such toxic items are subject to a mandatory neutralization procedure at the sites of special recycling enterprises.
