Platoshkin was charged with committing crimes under Part 1.1 of Art. 212 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (inducing or otherwise involving a person in committing mass riots) and Art. 207.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (public dissemination of knowingly false information about circumstances that pose a threat to the life and safety of citizens).

“The style and rhetoric he chose sooner or later should have brought him to a similar result. Radicalism also has boundaries,” comments political scientist Alexey Chesnakov.

Platoshkin’s comrade in the left opposition camp, Sergei Udaltsov, said that the answer would be a protest action scheduled for June 20. Its participants oppose the amendments to the Constitution proposed by the authorities and the referendum, which is scheduled to take place on July 1.

Political scientist Alexey Martynov does not rule out that Platoshkin could have been used in the role of a “ritual victim” on the eve of protests by leftist forces.

“Nikolai Platoshkin is of course an asshole freak! However, his media pumping and regional campaign cost his sponsors money! If, due to stupidity and chronic alcoholism, he was used for the purposes of a ritual sacrifice, this is unacceptable and deserves reproach. He’s not an important Gapon – Azef is just a caricature!” – without hiding his antipathy towards Platoshkin, writes Martynov.

However. Today's detention of Platoshkin has caused bewilderment among some experts.

“Let's assume there were reasons. OK. But why hasn't Navalny been arrested? He didn't call, did he? Strange justice,” notes political strategist Konstantin Dolgov.

Political scientist Ilya Grashchenkov believes that Platoshkin’s detention is a consequence of the struggle for power in the Communist Party of the Russian Federation.

“Within the Communist Party of the Russian Federation, Zyuganov plays the role of Putin in the Kremlin, an arbiter and authority. Grudinin, Levchenko, Klychkov, Afonin and others are all independent players, despite the fact that the demand for a “left-paternalistic” agenda is steadily growing.

From the first days of his appearance, Platoshkin began to promote himself on television, something that real oppositionists have always been deprived of. Who saw Navalny on the air of “First” or “Rossiya”? And Platoshkin was a regular on federal channels, and behaved there professionally - clip thinking with slogans, Stalinist maxims. To call him an extremist means to call the entire brigade of these eternal TV experts wandering from button to button as such...

Now the struggle for the assets of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation has intensified, because it is obvious that Zyuganov may leave the party in the next year or two, no matter how much he himself wants it. Therefore, Platoshkin, as a potential player (and not for the position of the Secretary General, but rather a player on the side of one of the “wings”, close to the so-called “Moscow group”), of course, was knocked out of the process. However, it is not a fact that the hype will not benefit him, and he will not begin to gain ratings as a “victim of the regime,” thereby playing for himself,” Grashchenkov argues in his blog.
