US Ambassador to Russia: Trump-Putin meeting is still a long way off
US Ambassador to Russia Jon Huntsman said that the meeting between President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin is still far away, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
This was reported by the Voice of America.
Huntsman said that if such a summit were to take place, “the president, when the time comes, will say what needs to be said.”
Earlier there were reports that the White House was working on organizing such a meeting.
Trump says he is ready for a summit with Putin, who, according to US intelligence, ordered interference in the 2016 election to help Trump win the election.
The president has repeatedly said that he wants to improve relations with Moscow. According to Huntsman, Trump will not negotiate with Putin unless he has issues to discuss that “are in the national interest of the United States.”
Earlier, American media reported that the White House was planning a possible meeting between President Trump and President Putin, planning for which is still at an early stage.
