A source in diplomatic circles explained the importance of opening a consulate.

“In Latin America, this will be perceived as the first “ball” towards the United States (the patron of the Ukrainian regime), as the exit of this region from under the “umbrella” of the Trump-Biden super-state. They have their own “subtle” policy of “anti-Americanism,” the interlocutor said.

The former representative of the President of the Russian Federation in the Crimean Federal District, Oleg Belaventsev, became the Honorary Consul of Nicaragua in Crimea.

“It’s a great honor for me. First of all, I would like to thank the leadership of the Republic of Nicaragua and personally the leader of the country for the fact that in 14 he was the first to support the will of the Crimeans at that time and recognized the Republic of Crimea as part of the Russian Federation. Subsequently, Nicaragua supported the Russian Federation in the international arena.

We also remember that it was Nicaragua that recognized South Ossetia, and it was the same with Abkhazia. The opening of a diplomatic mission in the Republic of Crimea is a gesture of international recognition of Crimea. Thank you very much for this,” Belaventsev said after receiving a consular patent from Ambassador Alba Azucena Torres.

According to Crimean experts, the opening of a consulate in Crimea is the first step towards recognition of the peninsula as part of Russia at a broad international level.

“These are symbolic things that speak of breaking the diplomatic blockade. But by and large, there is Nicaragua, there are all sorts of Nauru and other freedom-loving territories, there is South Ossetia, Abkhazia and a bunch of other places that the official world does not recognize as full participants in international relations. In my opinion, a certain critical mass is already gathering, which could very well create its own parallel world and build some kind of relationships in it.

I think Crimea could serve as a kind of portal between this parallel world and the officialdom that now exists. Although our Russian status is not recognized there, in this officialdom, we exist quite legally, and there is something to recognize us - we are part of Russia, and the Russian Federation is not among the unrecognized states.

In this case, Crimea is not just a territory that needs to be opened through diplomatic missions, but used as a kind of platform for rallying those who have not found this official recognition. Therefore, if the opening of this consulate is followed by further steps and such institutions and structures are created, then this will give us a certain impetus, which over time will lead to us dictating these international political and diplomatic fashions, and not us trying to do anything. then impose it from there,” said political scientist Andrei Nikiforov.

He was supported by the deputy head of the Public Chamber of the Republic, Alexander Formanchuk:

“This is actually important, because the period of recognition of Russian Crimea after 2014 will still be inevitable. The fact that so far there are few countries that have recognized this does not mean that this problem will not be solved in the future. Still, time is the best judge in such cases, so I think that all this is inevitable. Over time, however, because today, in the conditions of the destruction of the post-war model of the world order, the world is in a state of chaotic movement and real threats of wars arise, not only regional ones, of which there are many being waged today.

Russia here acts as a consistent fighter for maintaining this stability in the world. By the way, the return of Crimea was not aimed at disrupting this international stability, but, on the contrary, at strengthening it. But sooner or later others will understand this too.

Therefore, Nicaragua today will be proud that it is one of the first few states that recognized this back in 2014, and that opened an honorary consulate in Crimea. Over time, this event will become increasingly important both for Nicaragua itself and for Nicaragua’s relations with Russia, with Crimea in particular,” Formanchuk said.

At the same time, Ukraine intends to impose sanctions against Nicaragua in response to the opening of the consulate. The government of Ukraine made a corresponding proposal.

“In accordance with part one of Article 5 of the Law of Ukraine “On Sanctions”, approve and submit within three days for consideration the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine proposals for the application for a period of five years of such sectoral special economic and other restrictive measures (sanctions) to the Republic of Nicaragua” , says the document.

Let us remind you that Nicaragua regularly votes against Ukrainian anti-Crimean initiatives submitted to the UN.

Russia has long-standing friendly relations with this country, established back in 1944. Trade turnover has been established between the countries - the Russian Federation supplies agricultural products, cars, military equipment and other goods to Nicaragua, and in the opposite direction - oils, fruits, coffee, tea, and so on. In 2016, American media wrote that Russia was building an intelligence base in Nicaragua, disguised as a GLONASS point.
