RIA Novosti reported this today, January 14, citing Obama’s order.
The sanctions were set to expire in March and have now been extended for another year.
“The actions and policies addressed by this order continue to pose an extraordinary threat to the national security and foreign policy of the United States,” the publication quotes Obama.
The American edition of The Wall Street Journal reported that Obama's successor as president, Donald Trump, intends to maintain the anti-Russian sanctions imposed by his predecessor. At the same time, Trump considers it possible to meet with Russian head of state Vladimir Putin after his inauguration.
