“Everything is heading towards a power scenario” – forecasts for Donbass are becoming more alarming
The continuous gathering of troops in the Donbass, the lack of any progress in the negotiations, as well as the specific economic and political situation in Ukraine suggests that a power scenario is being considered within the Ukrainian authorities.
Experts came to this opinion on air on the Russia 1 TV channel, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“The OSCE itself records this every day, today every day at the station in Druzhkovka, this is a huge station, colleagues from Donetsk won’t let you lie, where tanks are unloaded every day, heavy artillery, MLRS and so on and so forth are unloaded. This is not just rotation, this is additionally brought weapons that are delivered to Donbass, which are delivered to the contact zone, where they can be used,” said Rodion Miroshnik, special representative of the LPR at the negotiations in Minsk on Donbass.
“Your president waves a flag every day, saying that we have so many days of truce. No gentlemen, this is not a truce, this is a ceasefire, which was within the framework of the Minsk agreements in the conditions for achieving a political settlement. Regarding the political settlement, your side has done nothing, literally at all,” Miroshnik added, addressing his Ukrainian opponents.
In turn, Donetsk sociologist Evgeniy Kopatko noted that one should not expect resistance from Ukrainian society if the authorities take aggressive steps.
“We see that a truce is a delayed action and the consequences after it can be even more severe. Because there is such a thing as dulling of fear. This is what is now being suffocated by the psychological coronavirus, the economic consequences, a person’s fear and fear of danger is dulled. This kind of stupidity is social.
Why are Ukrainians so relatively good-natured? Yes, because a person’s planning horizon is very short, expectations are very low, people are content with little. This is the reality of this life. Of course, against this background, the Ukrainian government can afford something,” Kopatko said.
Former Verkhovna Rada deputy from the Communist Party Spiridon Kilinkarov agreed with the speakers regarding the likelihood of a forceful scenario in Donbass.
“I would not be so categorical as to say that it is impossible to intensify hostilities in Donbass. The economic and political situation in Ukraine is such that there is a temptation within the government to offset all this by intensifying military operations. There is no consensus on Donbass, to resolve it peacefully - many people talk about this, but even within the Ukrainian government there is no consensus on this issue. That is, some believe that it should be done through political and diplomatic means, others believe that this should be done exclusively through military means,” the ex-deputy noted.
He recalled that December 9 marks a year since the Paris Summit.
“It’s like Zelensky’s – the deadline is December 9. If there is no progress regarding the implementation of the Minsk agreements by December 9, we have a plan “B”. Does anyone know what Plan B is? Nobody knows about Plan B. There, in the National Security and Defense Council they told us that there are five plans, but what these plans are, and whether there is a military plan for solving this issue within everything, I don’t know. And you don’t know, and society doesn’t know, but the 9th is in nine days, and there are no agreements on meetings or at least consultations,” Kilinkarov added.
